Chevrolet Camaro - 2nd Gen (1970 to 1981)

The second generation of Chevrolet Camaro debuted for the 1970 model year. This new generation of Camaro continued the manufacturing techniques established by its predecessor, but was an entirely new car featuring much more rounded styling. The second generation was only offered in a two door coupe body style, dropping the convertible offered for the First Generation Camaro. A raft of improvements and upgrades made the new Camaro not only more comfortable, but more capable on the road. On top of the base model, the 'RS' appearance package, 'SS' performance package, and 'Z28' Special Performance Package were offered. These performance variants became less powerful and desired as production continued, largely due to external factors like fuel shortages, emissions regulations, and insurance increases. As production continued, the second generation Camaro saw a styling facelift in 1974 and in 1978. Due to the Camaro's popularity, it was commonly modified to create Custom versions. Chevrolet built the second generation until 1981, when it was replaced by the Third Generation Camaro.
