In the 1980’s police pursuit vehicles were limited to heavy 4 door sedans. After seeing the successful SSP Police Mustang, in 1990 Chevrolet decided to produce their own model with a Regular Production Option (RPO) known as B4C for the 1991 model year. This was referred to as the Special Service Package (SSP), when ordering it started off as a Camaro RS (IFP87) and the B4C RPO was added. This provided a dual converter performance exhaust, 16” aluminum wheels with 245/50ZR16 speed rated tires, 4-wheel disc brakes, an engine oil cooler, 105 Amp alternator, a 145mph speedometer, AC, a 630CCA battery, and performance handling suspension. For 1992 the B4C included the 1LE heavy duty front brakes. This also provided 2 engine options: the 5.0L 305 V8 with a 5-speed manual that produced 330hp, or the 5.7L 350 V8 mated to a 4 speed automatic producing 245hp. Even though this package was only available for the final 2 years of the 3rd generation, it provided the groundwork for the Chevrolet Camaro 4th-gen B4C-SSP.
