DeSoto Firedome - 2nd Gen (1955 to 1956)

The second generation of DeSoto Firedome was introduced for the 1955 model year. This updated generation of Firedome was fitted with a new 291ci (4.8L) V8 engine that initially produced 185hp, but for 1956, a larger and more powerful 330ci version of the same engine. As with the previous generation, the second generation was offered as a full-size, rear wheel drive car with an automatic or manual transmission. Whereas the Firedome had been launched as DeSoto's top model, this generation saw the model become DeSoto's entry level model. Coupe, sedan, convertible, and station wagon body styles were available before production ended in 1956. The second generation Firedome was replaced by the Third Generation DeSoto Firedome.
