The Coronet is an automobile that was marketed by Dodge as a full-size car in the 1950s, initially the division&#39;s highest trim line but, starting in 1955, the lowest trim line. From the 1965 to 1975 model years the name was on intermediate-sized models. A coronet is a small crown consisting of ornaments fixed on a metal ring. Seven generations of the Coronet were built: <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/1st-gen/">1st Gen (1949-1952)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/2nd-gen/">2nd Gen (1953-1954)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/3rd-gen/">3rd Gen (1955-1956)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/4th-gen/">4th Gen (1957-1959)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/5th-gen/">5th Gen (1965-1970)</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/6th-gen/">6th Gen (1971-1974)</a>, and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/7th-gen/">7th Gen (1975-1976)</a>.

The <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/">Dodge Coronet</a> is an automobile that was marketed as a full-size car in the 1950s, initially the division&#39;s highest trim line. The stock Dodge Coronet was a smooth running car, and the six-cylinder engine could power the car to 90 mph (145 km/h). A limited production model was a four-door, eight-passenger limousine, an extended version of the stock Dodge Coronet. One of the most notable features of the first generation Coronet was a three-speed, fluid-driven transmission that was operated by a foot pedal on the floor. It required no shifter. Production of the first generation Coronet lasted until 1952, when the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/2nd-gen/">Second Generation Dodge Coronet</a> was introduced.

It gained an optional 241 cu in (3.9 L) &quot;Red Ram&quot; Hemi Engine and set over 100 land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The windshield finally became one-piece. Electric windshield wipers were standard, while the radio cost $83. The third generation <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/">Dodge Coronet</a> dropped to the lower end of the Dodge&#39;s lineup, with the Wayfarer and Meadowbrook names no longer used and the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/custom-royal/">Custom Royal</a> added above the Royal, Lancer, and La Femme. Bodies were restyled with help from newly hired Virgil Exner to be lower, wider, and longer than the lumpy prewar style, which in turn generated a healthy boost in sales over 1954. The third generation was available with inline six or V8 engines, and was built until 1956, when it was replaced by the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/dodge/coronet/4th-gen/">Fourth Generation Dodge Coronet</a>.

These B-Body cars were available as sedans, wagons, coupes, hardtops, and convertibles during their production, and featured Deluxe, Coronet 440, and Coronet 500 trim levels. Engine options included one inline six option (3.7L Slant Six), and a wide range of V8 units ranging in displacement from 4.5L to 7.2L. As well as updated styling, this new generation featured a 1975 exclusive coupe variant as well as the station wagon and sedan variants. Three V8 (5.2L, 5.9L, 6.6L) options were offered alongside a 3.7L inline six unit, although a police exclusive 7.2L V8 was also produced.
