The Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa was a racing variant of the Ferrari 250 that was first introduced in 1957. The 250 Testa Rossa, also seen as the 250 TR, is one of the most desired and sought-after cars in the world, with many regarding it as one of the most significant and successful race cars of its era. These open-top cars were powered by a 3.0L V12 engine that sent drive to the rear wheels. For 1957 and 1958, a 4 speed manual gearbox was used, but from 1959 onwards, a 5 speed unit was fitted. A total of 33 examples of the 250 Testa Rossa were built, with 19 of those cars going to customers, with the rest being used by Ferrari for their racing team. These 19 customer cars all featured the famed "pontoon fender" body that was designed by Sergio Scaglietti. The race cars were initially produced with the Scaglietti body, but they evolved through the years in order to improve aerodynamics and thus make a faster race car. These later bodies were built by Carrozzeria Fantuzzi as well as Bizzarrini and Chiti. Production of the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa ended in 1961.
