The Fiat 242 is a successor to the 238. Created in 1974, the vehicle was a joint venture between Citroen and Fiat. Consequently, it shares a platform with the Citroen C35. The 242 is a three-door "multipurpose" van. Some models, however, did have rear doors. The van featured a four-cylinder, diesel or gas front-engine, front-wheel-drive drivetrain. By 1987 Fiat discontinued the 242, but Citroen continued to manufacture the C35 until 1992. The Fiat Ducato was the follow-up model to the 242.
