In 1987, Ford introduced the Eighth Generation of the F-Series. Largely an evolution of the previous 7th Gen F-Series rather than a complete redesign, this new generation of the famed pickup trucks saw the end of the fendered Flareside truck bed, with all trucks being built with the sleek Styleside bed. As well as the singular truck bed, these new trucks featured a more aerodynamic design, with a smoother, cleaner front end. For the majority of vehicles, a 4.9L inline six engine was standard, but a range of V8 engines ranging from 5.0L to 7.5L were optional, as were two diesel V8 engines. Both manual and automatic transmissions were available, with RWD or 4WD layouts. Trim consisted of three packages, the base Custom, mid-range XL, and top of the line XLT Lariat. As with the previous generation, variants consisted of the F-150, F-250, and F-350. Production of the 8th Gen F-Series ended in 1991, when it was replaced by the next generation 9th Gen Ford F-Series.
