The fourth and final generation of Ford LTD debuted for the 1983 model year. For 1983 Ford decided to split the top LTD trim into its own model (LTD Crown Victoria), and shifted the LTD into the mid-size segment. A four door sedan was offered alongside a station wagon (Country Squire) variant. Over the course of production, the fourth generation LTD was offered with a choice between a 2.3L inline four, 3.3L inline six, 3.8L V6, and 4.9L V8 engine. Production of the Ford LTD ended in 1986 when the model was discontinued.
