The fifth generation Imperial was unveiled for the 1974 model year. Due to corporate restructuring, the fifth generation Imperial used elements from the Chrysler Newport body. This new generation of Imperial saw the model move closer to the Chrysler range, with the most shared components of any Imperial generation before. The fifth generation Imperial was offered as a 'Crown' coupe, or two or four door hardtop, and was fitted with a 7.2L (440 cu in) 'Wedge' V8 engine. Production of the Imperial ended in 1975, but the brand and car would be revived in 1981 for the Sixth Generation Imperial.
