Indian Single (1901 to 1928)

The Single model was introduced in 1901 by Indian Motorcycles.It was the first and most iconic single-cylinder line, marking the beginning of the American motorcycle industry. It had different versions, but the most notable were the Camelback, Racer and Prince. It began with the Camelback, recognizable by its rear-mounted fuel tank and its approximately 3hp - 4hp engine with belt drive, later evolving to chain drive and magneto ignition. Over the years, sport versions like the Racer were developed, used on wooden tracks and equipped with 4hp side-valve engines, which solidified Indian's reputation in racing. Finally, the series culminated with the Indian Prince, which incorporated a modern 348cc engine, a two-speed manual transmission and a more refined design. Overall, the Indian Single represented the transition from primitive motorized bicycles to advanced engineered motorcycles. The Indian Single was produced until 1928.
