Indian Twin (1907 to 1925)

The Twin was introduced in 1907 by Indian Motorcycles. It innitially had a 633cc V-Twin using an atmospheric intake valve design, but quickly evolved into more powerful and refined engines. During the early 1910s, Indian developed the Racer and Big Base 8-Valve variants equipped with four valves per cylinder that produced over 10hp and dominated the board-track circuits, reaching speeds above 160 km/h. In 1916, the introduction of the Powerplus engine, a 1000cc side-valve V-Twin, brought smoother performance, greater reliability and became the core powerplant for Indian’s road models through the mid-1920s. Over the years, the Twin line adopted innovations such as chain drive, pressurized lubrication and a 3 speed manual gearbox. The Indian Twin was produced until 1925.
