International Harvester

International Harvester, also known as International, or IHC, is an American manufacturer that has built agricultural equipement as well as a wide range of trucks and commercial vehicles. International Harvester traces its roots to the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, an entity that built agricultural reapers, and would eventually merge with a few other entities to form the International Harvester Company in 1902. Alongside its agricultural products, IHC entered the automotive world with the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/auto-buggy-wagon/">Auto Buggy &amp; Auto Wagon</a>, the company&#39;s first motorized cars. IHC grew and built a wide range of light, medium, and heavy duty trucks, such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/kb-series/">KB-Series</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/l-series/">L-Series</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/r-series/">R-Series</a>, and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/d-series/">D-Series</a>. Alongside its trucks, IHC also introduced the famed <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/scout/">Scout</a> and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/travelall/">Travelall</a>, which were precursors to modern SUVs and off-road vehicles. In late 1984, International Harvester sold its agricultural products division, and renamed itself Navistar International, now only focused on producing engines and heavy duty commercial vehicles.

The International Harvester Travelall was a series of cars that was introduced for the 1953 model year. The Travelall was a precursor to the modern SUV, and competed with the likes of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/chevrolet/suburban">Chevrolet Suburban</a>. Over the course of production, the Travelall was offered in three, four, or five door wagon body styles, and was available as a rear or all wheel drive vehicle. This generation of Travelall was offered in a five door wagon body style, and was powered by a selection of inline six and V8 engines. The Travelall was introduced as a three door wagon that was based on the International Harvester R-Series (S-Series from 1955-1957), and was powered by a 3.6L inline six engine. The second generation of <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/travelall/">International Harvester Travelall</a> was introduced for the 1958 model year, and was offered as a four door wagon based on the International Harvester A-Series trucks (B-Series from 1959). When the new generation was released, it was only offered with a 3.6L inline six engine, but from 1959, a new 3.9L V8 engine was optional. While most variants were rear wheel drive, International offered all wheel drive options as well. Production of the second generation lasted until 1960, when it was replaced by the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/travelall/3rd-gen/">Third Generation International Harvester Travelall</a>.

The fourth and final generation of <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/international-harvester/travelall/">International Harvester Travelall</a> was introduced for the 1969 model year. This generation of Travelall was offered in a five door wagon body style, as well as a limited run of a four door crew cab pickup known as the Wagonmaster. These predecessors to the modern SUV were powered by a selection of V8 engines, as well as one 3.8L inline six unit. These engines were mated to both manual and automatic transmissions.
