Isuzu Motors Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of passenger and commercial vehicles. Founded in 1916, the company (then known as Tokyo Ishikawajima Shipbuilding and Engineering) began building Wolseley cars from knock-down kits. Renamed Isuzu in 1934, the company continued with commercial vehicles and eventually equipment for the Japanese war effort. Postwar, notable home-market passenger cars included the Bellett and the 117, while a long-lasting corporate investment from General Motors led to exports to America for the first time with the Chevrolet LUV - a rebadged Isuzu Faster. Befitting the commercial vehicle heritage, the Isuzu Trooper SUV is perhaps the most notable model.
