The Isuzu Trooper (known in Japan as the Isuzu Bighorn) was a three or five-door SUV offered across two generations between 1981 and 2002. The first generation was initially powered by a 2.0-liter four cylinder gas engine, paired to either manual or automatic transmission options. 2.2L naturally aspirated and 2.3L turbocharged diesel engines were also available, and from 1988 a more powerful 2.6L inline four was offered. In 1989 the General Motors 2.8L V6 was fitted to bring additional power to the range. The 2nd generation of Trooper, known as the Trooper II in North America, had a variety of Isuzu-designed V6 engines, as well as a pair of turbodiesel options. In 2002, the Trooper was replaced by a pair of new Isuzu models, the Axiom and the Ascender.
