Lancia 037 (1980 to 1985)

To homologate the car for Group B, Lancia built 200 road-going versions called the 037 Stradale, which debuted at the 1982 Turin Motor Show. The Rally version made its competitive debut in 1982 but initially suffered from reliability issues. However, by 1983, the car had matured significantly, and Lancia won the 1983 World Rally Championship Constructors' title with drivers Walter Röhrl and Markku Alén. This made the 037 the last rear-wheel-drive car to win the World Rally Championship. The 037 featured a mid-engine layout with a 2.0L I4 Supercharged engine developed by Aurelio Lampredi, equipped with a volumetric supercharger ("Volumex") that provided strong low-end torque essential for rallying. The car was notable for being rear-wheel drive at a time when competitors were increasingly using four-wheel drive. Despite this, the 037 was highly competitive due to its light weight, agility, and quick servicing design. In 2021, Italian manufacturer Kimera Automobili introduced the Kimera Evo 037, a stunning modern reinterpretation of the legendary Lancia Rally 037.
