The Defender 90 Standard Soft Top Puma (2007–2016) was the entry-level, open-air utility variant of the short-wheelbase lineup within the Puma generation. Powered by the bulged-hood 2.4L (2007–2011) or Euro 5 2.2L (2012–2016) diesel engine paired with a 6-speed manual, it updated the classic platform with a spartan 2 or 3-seat front cab and a modern HVAC dashboard. Structurally, it combined the highly maneuverable 90-inch chassis with a removable canvas top over a steel frame, providing excellent open-air accessibility for light agricultural or utility work. Within the short-wheelbase family, it stood as the direct, modular counterpart to the 90 Standard Hard Top, trading away that model's fixed steel panels and permanent weatherproof cargo security for maximum loading flexibility and quick outdoor access.
