The NC generation Mazda MX-5 Miata, introduced for model year 2006, is notably different and larger than the prior generation - as the car shares a platform and many suspension components with the larger RX-8. The larger two-liter four produces 170hp. In 2006, a model with a hard plastic folding top - known as the Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT) - was offered. The NC was succeeded by the ND generation for model year 2016.
