While sedans and coupes remained - some with staid four cylinder engines - this generation is best known as the return of the GT-R nameplate. The <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/">R32 GT-R</a> paired a twin-turbocharged 2.6-liter RB26DETT six cylinder with all-wheel drive and four-wheel steering. Producing at least 276hp, the R32 quickly became known as &quot;Godzilla&quot; - the monster from Japan. For the 1990 model year, Nissan reintroduced the famed Skyline GT-R name. After having been dormant since 1973, this latest iteration of the GT-R was a variant of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/">R32 Nissan Skyline</a>. The R32 GT-R was offered exclusively in the two door coupe body style and featured Nissan&#39;s HICAS four wheel steering system. In addition to four wheel steering, the GT-R was fitted with the performance-focused ATTESA all wheel drive system. For all of the GT-R&#39;s performance upgrades, the most well known and respected is the RB26DETT engine. This twin turbocharged 2.6L inline six was rated at 276hp, but actual performance figures were higher. As well as the already capable <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/base/">GT-R Base Model</a>, Nissan also built variants such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/nismo/">GT-R Nismo</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/v-spec-i/">GT-R V-Spec I</a>, and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/v-spec-ii/">GT-R V-Spec II</a>. The Skyline GT-R Nismo was a limited production variant of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/">R32 Nissan Skyline</a> that was introduced for the 1990 model year. The Nismo, short for Nissan Motorsports, was created in order to homologate various updates to the Skyline GT-R for Group A racing. Some of these changes included improvements to the aerodynamics, weight-saving, and upgraded and more durable turbos. The R32 GT-R Nismo was only available in Gun Grey Metallic, and saw a total of 560 examples built. 500 were available for sale, while the remaining 60 were set aside to build as race cars.

Commonly referred to as &quot;Godzilla,&quot; the R32 GT-R saw a range of limited edition versions such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/nismo/">Nismo</a>, <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/v-spec-i/">V-Spec I</a>, and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/v-spec-ii/">V-Spec II</a>, but the base model was still an incredibly capable car. The standard GT-R was anything but, featuring Nissan&#39;s legendary RB26DETT engine, which was a twin-turbocharged 2.6L inline six unit that was rated at 276hp, although actual power figures were higher. Introduced in 1993, the GT-R V-Spec I was a limited production variant of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/">R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R</a>. The V-Spec I was created to celebrate the GT-R&#39;s success in Group A and Group N racing, and the variant&#39;s name is short for Victory Specification. Although featuring the same RB26DETT inline six as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/base/">Base GT-R</a>, the V-Spec I was given larger wheels, upgraded brakes, a lightened hood, and an improved ATTESA all wheel drive system. Production of the R32 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec I ended in 1994, with a total of 1,396 examples built. Nissan would later introduced an <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/nissan/skyline/r32/gt-r/v-spec-ii/">R32 GT-R V-Spec II</a>.
