The 356 B T5 was the first variant of the Porsche 356's new generation: the 356 B. This new generation received an entirely new body and interior design as well as a completely updated powertrain offering. The body changes included a newer flattened hood, a larger hood handle, both larger and higher rear, and front bumpers, front vent windows for Coupe's, new reflectors on the rear, license plate lights mounted on the bumpers, and several other smaller changes. The interior also received significant changes, including a completely new steering wheel and rear, foldable, individual back seats. The Coupe and Cabriolet were direct replacements of the previous 356 A generation, but this time the Roadster replaced the Convertible D, and a new type of Coupe was offered: the Notchback Coupe, which essentially was a Cabriolet with a welded-on hardtop. Powertrain offerings included four different engines: the 1600 Normal (Base Model), the 1600 Super (or S), the Super 90 (or S90), and the top-of-the-line Carrera. All of these were offered with the new 741 Transmission, which had improved linkage and an entirely new case.
