The first generation of Saab 900 was introduced for the 1979 model year. The first generation, which is also known as the 'Classic' generation, was offered as a mid-range convertible, sedan, or liftback. The first generation was fitted with a range of front mounted naturally aspirted or turbocharged inline four engines powering the front wheels. Among the most notable first generation variants were the Turbo, SPG/Aero, Carlsson, and Commemorative Edition. Production of the first generation Saab 900 lasted until 1994, when the New Generation Saab 900 was introduced.
