Talbot-Lago wished to maintain its status as a fast and opulent manufacturer after the war. In 1946, they began production on one of its most essential and popular platforms, the T26. Bodied by numerous coachbuilders, the car could be purchased as the T26 Record, T26 Grand Sport, and the T26C. T26 featured a new powerplant capable of 170hp from a 4.5L straight-six motor. The Record was a passenger car, and the Grand Sport was used for racing and transportation. The Grand Sport was bodied by coachbuilders and had a different chassis, and was one of the most powerful cars in the world. The T26C, on the other hand, was completely different and was used for open-wheel racing in the newly formed F1. By 1954 production of the T26 had ceased.
