The seventh-generation Toyota Celica GT was considered the base model, with the only other U.S. variant being the GT-S. The GT came with the smaller-output 1.8L 1ZZ-FE engine that produced about 140hp at 6400 rpm. It came with a VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing) engine management system that can change the timing of the valves. A five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission was available, and the GT came standard with front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
