In 1998, Volkswagen introduced the New Beetle. This new series of cars were available as coupes or convertibles, channeling the design and spirit of the Type 1 Beetle. The New Beetle was available with a variety of engines, including inline 4, inline 5, and VR5 configurations. A 3.2L VR6 engine was available on the limited production RSi. Another notable variant was the Beetle Turbo. Built until 2011, the New Beetle was replaced by the A5 Beetle.
