The first generation of Volkswagen Jetta, known as the A1, was introduced for the 1980 model year. The first gen Jetta was available as a two or four door sedan, and would quickly become the best selling European car in North America. Marketed as the Atlantic in Mexico, the first generation Jetta was built until 1984 and was replaced by the second generation A2 Jetta.
