This 1964 Land Rover Series IIA 88 is a right-hand drive example that was purchased ten years ago in South Africa and imported to the US six years ago. It currently shows 8,216 km (5,105 miles) on the five-digit odometer and total mileage is unknown. This example is painted in Bronze Green with a contrasting khaki-colored soft top. A front vinyl bench seat and two additional cloth benches facing each other in the rear increase passenger capacity on this two-door model. This very capable off-road vehicle is powered by a 2.25L inline-four cylinder engine linked to a manual transmission and full-time 4WD managed by a dual-range transfer case. This Series IIA combines classic Land Rover styling with functional, no-frills appointments. The truck is located in California and shows a current registration along with its earlier South African plates.

Detailed photos and a third-party inspection report show a well-presented vehicle with what appears to be an older restoration. This Land Rover is believed to have been repainted and the soft top appears to have been replaced. The green paint and khaki soft top look to be in good condition overall and closer inspection shows cracking and chipping that come with age. The minimalist interior is in good condition with no observable cosmetic flaws. Mechanically, the vehicle runs and drives as expected. The inspection noted areas of engine oil and differential fluid seepage on the undercarriage but found no active leaks. The engine oil appeared to be dirty and should be changed. Four Michelin tires are older but in good condition. Included in the sale are a rear-mounted hi-lift jack, a vintage cargo box, a fire extinguisher, and Land Rover manuals.

About the model

The Land Rover Series IIA was introduced in 1961. While visually very similar to its predecessor, the Series IIA largely featured updates to the interior as well as the running gear. The Series IIA was available with the well known 2.25L inline four engine, as well as a 2.6L inline six engine. A diesel variant was also available. The Land Rover Series IIA was in production until 1971 and was replaced by the Land Rover Series III.
