HISTORY
Few cars represent Italian automotive excellence of the 1960s like the Alfa Romeo Giulia GT. Designed by a very young Giorgetto Giugiaro for Bertone and introduced in 1963, this Milanese coupé immediately became a benchmark thanks to its elegant lines, lively performance, and refined racing-derived engineering.
Among all versions produced, the early series known by enthusiasts as “Scalino” hold a very special place. The name comes from the distinctive step between the bonnet and the front grille, a unique styling detail that would disappear in later versions. Today, Scalino GTs are among the most sought-after by collectors, especially when preserved in original specification and condition.
The 1300 GT perfectly embodied Alfa Romeo’s philosophy: a sporty yet refined car, suitable for everyday use, delivering exciting performance thanks to the famous all-aluminium twin-cam engine, an extremely advanced technical solution for its time.
THE CAR
Veloce Classic is pleased to offer this outstanding Alfa Romeo Giulia GT 1300 Scalino from 1968, a particularly desirable example due to its originality, history, and quality of restoration.
First registered in Brescia in 1968, the car retains its original license plates and original registration booklet. It has had only two owners from new and is currently registered with ASI.
The car is finished in the highly attractive and extremely rare British Racing Green, a colour reserved for early series models and no longer offered in later generations. A particularly elegant specification that is now very hard to find.
The bodywork has undergone a comprehensive structural and conservative restoration. Panels requiring replacement have been correctly renewed, and the shell is now completely solid with no signs of corrosion or rust. The fuel tank has also been replaced as part of the restoration work.
The interior is original in tan leather and has never been heavily restored, preserving the authentic character increasingly appreciated by collectors. It has been carefully cleaned and preserved, as have all the original glass elements.
Mechanically, the car has been fully overhauled by the renowned Alfa Romeo specialist workshop of Massimo Benettollo. Work included suspension components, shock absorbers, springs, gearbox, gear sets, and steering joints, all either renewed or replaced where necessary. New tyres and Autodelta wheels have been fitted, while the original wheels and steering wheel are present with the car.
Thanks to its transparent history, only two owners, original documentation, careful restoration, and one of the most desirable colour combinations, this Giulia GT 1300 Scalino represents a rare opportunity for the collector seeking one of the finest examples available today.
