A beautiful, restored example that is ready to enjoy directly.
Delivered in factory 002 Colorado Orange over a Pepita/Black vinyl interior as confirmed by BMW Classic.
One very classic and elegant looking convertible. All convertibles based on the 02-series were built by the coachbuilder ‘Baur’ in Stuttgart for BMW. The 2002 Targa is the last iteration of the 2002 Convertible. It does have a roof and is therefore structurally much stronger than the outgoing 'Vollcabriolet'. Viewed by many as the most fun open 2002, why? It drives sporty, with great handling and has the powerful 2,0 liter engine. Yet it does have 2 removable roofs: one folding, one detachable.
This early 2002 Targa is a genuine round-taillight model that was produced on the 2nd of June 1972 and delivered to BMW Italia S.p.A in Palazzalo on the 14th of June 1972. We have acquired this car in 2023 from the last owner, Mr. Tomasello from Sicily. Why? An early round taillight 2002 Baur.
The car did need love, which we gave it. The body was stripped and it's axles and drivetrain were removed. It was beautifully repainted in it's factory shade of 002 Colorado Orange. Also the enginebay and trunk have been repainted. The body is very nice and straight. We have installed a complete new set of beltline trim, new emblems, new mirrors, new trim on the sills. The bumpers are in very good original condition. New doorbrakes, zinc-plated locks and hardware. A new windscreen was installed in a new gasket. The car makes an excellent impression. Not just the looks we're refurbished;
The engine bay wasn't just repainted. It's been reworked completely. The original engine was removed for rebuild: Rebuilt cylinderhead, new bearings, chain,pistonrings. Also everything around it: rebuilt alternator, startermotor, new waterpump, thermostat, all new coolant hoses. The carburator was cleaned and fitted with new gaskets and the ignition system was reworked completely: cap, rotor, plugs, wires, condensator, points. It was fitted on new motor mounts. The subframe was removed for powdercoating while in there. Furthermore a new battery, fluids, filters and more. It features new hood insulation and firewall insulation.
Since the front subframe was powdercoated, we have also fitted powdercoated control arms, new balljoints, new tie-rods and all new bushings. The braking system was restored with rebuilt and zinc-plated calipers in the front and new cylinders + shoes in the rear. New brake lines, brake hoses, new fluid, new fluid reservoir, new brakepads and mounting material. The rotors were lathed and well within spec.
The 4-speed transmission was re-sealed and the oil replaced. The shifter mechanism has been repainted and fitted with new bushings. New transmission mount/bushing and a new clutch cylinder were installed as well as a new hardy disc/guibo and center driveshaft bearing.
The interior is completely reupholstered. A new set of carpets in the correct color. The Baur correct seats were reupholstered in new black vinyl with new black/white Pepita / Houndstooth fabric. Brand new doorpanels in the front and reupholstered panels in the rear. A new set of automatic seatbelts, zinc-plated seat rails, reupholstered center console, new shifter and shifter boot, doorseals, reupholstered sunvivors - to give you an idea about the extent of the operation. The heaterbox was has been reworked and features a new heater valve and new heaterblower motor.
The trunk was repainted and reupholstered accordingly. New wooden panels upholstered with grey vinyl. A restored sparewheel, trunk and tool is present and the trunkseal was replaced. As for the convertible roofs - also restored or replaced. The flat, detacheable roof was reupholstered with the 'Sonnenland' fabric and the inner headliner was redone. The foldable roof has been replaced with new. The tonneau cover has been replaced. Countless seals along the roof have been replaced during the process.
The car has the typical-italian FPS 13''wheels as seen on many Italian 02's. These were nicely restored and fitted with new tires, center caps, wheelnuts and emblems. A 5th same wheel is in the trunk.
The car has been adjusted, tuned, aligned and test driven. This car wears the ultimate color combination and is appearing in beautiful restored, rebuilt and sorted condition.
