About this 1972 BMW 3.0 CS

VIN: 2212575

BMW 3.0 CS E9 a true classic for sale
The BMW E9 3.0 CS is one of those cars that just keeps getting better with age. Built in the early 70s, the E9 was BMW’s flagship coupe, combining a beautiful design with a smooth six-cylinder engine and a proper grand touring feel. This particular BMW 3.0 CS E9 is a really special car, very original, low mileage, and finished in what I think is one of the best colors ever offered on an E9.

Exterior: The first thing you notice is the stunning Ceylon Gold paint. I’ve always thought this is one of the very best colors on a BMW E9, it really suits the shape of the 3.0 CS perfectly. The car is in excellent condition overall, and that’s thanks to an exterior restoration that was carried out between 2013 and 2015. At that time, all the typical rust areas were taken care of, including new inner and outer rocker panels, and the car was fully repainted. Ten years later, the paint still looks fantastic, with a deep shine and very tidy panel gaps.

All the exterior chrome is original and in great condition, which is rare to see. The stainless trim is equally nice. The BMW 3.0 CS still wears its original Chromodora wheels, and the stance of the car is just right.

Interior: Climbing inside this BMW 3.0 CS is like stepping back to 1972. The interior is completely original, beige velour seats with black sides, matching door panels, the original wood trim, carpets, and even the steering wheel are all there. You can really tell this has been a carefully owned, low-mileage car. The velour shows a little natural wear, especially in this color, but overall the interior is in incredible shape. The wood looks beautiful, the chrome trim is clean, and everything feels very honest.

It also has manual sunroof, which works perfectly. The E9 has always been a great GT car, with a comfortable driving position, space in the back seats, and a large trunk, it’s a car that’s as practical as it is beautiful.

Engine & Mechanics: Under the hood is the original 3.0-liter inline-six, naturally aspirated and fitted with dual Zenith carburetors, just as it left the factory. Power is around 180 horsepower, sent through a four-speed Getrag manual gearbox. This BMW 3.0 CS has its matching-numbers engine, and it runs beautifully, smoothly, responsively, and with that classic BMW straight-six sound.

It’s been properly maintained over the years, with a fully stamped service book and a stack of invoices to back it up. Recent work includes a carburetor service and a brand-new stainless steel exhaust system, which gives the car just the right sound without being over the top.

History & Documentation: The history of this BMW E9 3.0 CS is one of its strongest points. It was delivered new in Sweden by Bo Smith Bil in Gothenburg and sold to its first owner, a textile store owner in Borås. He kept it until 1976, when it passed to its second owner, who hardly drove it and even kept it off the road for long stretches of time. In 2002, it was sold to a relative of the second owner, who’s had it ever since.

Today, the car has just 76,500 km on the clock, fully documented and confirmed with MOT records, service stamps, and paperwork dating all the way back to the 70s. During its most recent ownership, all rust issues were addressed, and the car was brought back to excellent condition without losing its originality. It comes with the original tool kit, books, stamped service book, two sets of keys, and a binder of historical documents. For anyone who knows these cars, it’s rare to find a BMW 3.0 CS E9 this original, this well-documented, and in this condition.
