What’s special about this listing

1974 MG MGB with Overdrive

This 1974 MG MGB is a maroon-over-black convertible powered by a 1.8-liter inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and overdrive in third and fourth gears. The car has been tastefully upgraded and maintained with a mix of period-style enhancements and modern improvements. Notable equipment includes a chrome luggage rack, driving lights, a Sony stereo with Bluetooth, and 14″ Rostyle wheels. Modifications include a Weber downdraft carburetor, stainless-steel exhaust system, aluminum radiator and valve cover, and a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel.

The previous seller acquired the car out of Rhode Island in June 2020 and performed a range of cosmetic and mechanical restorations, including a repaint in the factory Damask Red, an overhaul of the braking system, wheel refinishing, and installation of new trim, bumpers, soft top, and tires.

Under current ownership, additional mechanical improvements have been made by a specialist British car mechanic. These include repacking both front wheel bearings, rebuilding the fuel pump, repairing the passenger-side window mechanism, and resolving various electrical issues by reworking the main wiring harness at the engine bay firewall.
This MGB is now offered with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate, two keys, a tonneau cover, top boot, factory jack, and a clean Georgia title in the seller’s name.

Exterior
Per the included BMIHT certificate, the car left the factory in Damask Red and was refinished in this original color during prior ownership following a full strip-down. Restoration work at that time also included metal repair, new bumpers, side trim, headlight bezels, and weather seals. A chrome luggage rack is mounted on the trunk, and a black replacement soft top was installed.

Wheels & Brakes
Refinished 14″ Rostyle wheels are mounted with Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, and a matching spare is stored in the trunk. The braking system has been comprehensively overhauled with braided stainless-steel lines, a new master cylinder, new braking components, and an alignment. The front wheel bearings were recently repacked as part of continued maintenance.

Interior
The interior features black vinyl bucket seats with matching carpets, door panels, and dashboard. Equipment includes lap belts, a Sony CD stereo with Bluetooth functionality, replacement speakers, and an electric antenna. A wood-rimmed Moto-Lita steering wheel frames Smiths gauges, including a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,500-rpm redline. The odometer shows 76k miles; true mileage is unknown. During prior ownership, the turn signal switch, speedometer cable, and chrome gauge bezels were replaced.

Mechanical
The 1.8-liter inline-four is a higher-compression unit believed to be sourced from an earlier MGB. It has been fitted with a rebuilt Weber downdraft carburetor, an alloy valve cover, stainless braided oil cooler lines, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and an aluminum radiator with a thermostatically controlled electric fan. Recent service includes a rebuilt fuel pump, rewiring of the main harness at the firewall, and typical maintenance such as new fluids, filters, coolant hoses, ignition components, and universal joints.

Transmission
Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox with functional overdrive in third and fourth gears. The drivetrain has been serviced and performs well, making the car a strong driver.
