1978 Peugeot 504

This 1978 Peugeot 504 Diesel is original and highly original. It has been in one family since it was purchased new. I have original purchase papers. The known exact mileage is 37,867. It has been garaged or covered almost the entire time.

Note about pricing: I set the price from Classic.com information about Peugeot 504 prices. I realise it is hard to price such a unique car. I want to sell it. I will be reducing the price in increments in kind of a Dutch Auction process. If it seems too high, please check back. I am also open to considering reasonable offers.

The interior is original and in excellent condition. The upholstery, dash, and instrument panel have no cracks or sun damage. The exterior paint is original, cream color and it would restore nicely with clay and wax. All the glass is intact.

The engine starts and runs with even compression and no smoke. The battery is a new AGM battery of proper size and amp rating. The exhaust system is intact. The automatic transmission goes into gear, both D and R and the car moves under its own power.

The car is a drivable very light project car for a hobbyist who enjoys puttering, mainly needing detailing and lubrication such as for door latches which work a little stiffly from disuse. The hood latch was sticky but the miracle of WD-40 fixed it. The door latches would probably respond the same. The fluids and filters should be changed. The air filter is oil-bath type. The 4 wheel disk brakes work with no leaks. The disks are in good shape with no visible pitting, but have a light rust patina which should come off with driving, but might be cleaned with steel wool or a wire brush before driving to avoid the risk of prematurely wearing the pads. The plastic front radiator grill is intact and in good condition and has been kept in the trunk to preserve it. The power steering works but may have a small leak. The condition of the A/C is unknown, but it probably needs refrigerant. The radio works. Some passenger side chrome body trim is off because of missing clips but is with the car. There is some rust in a spot at the rear of the left front wheel and at the top of the windshield. An independent auto body and paint repair person I know gave an informal guesstimate of around $800 based on pictures. The tires hold air but are old and should be replaced. The California licensing has been in non-operating status so there are no back penalties.
