BMW R12 (1935 to 1942)

The R12 Motorrad was introduced in 1935 by BMW. It was equipped with a 745cc air cooled, side valve, twin boxer engine, paired to a 4 speed manual transmission with shaft drive. The R12 is particularly notable for being the world's first mass produced motorcycle with hydraulic telescopic front suspension, a revolutionary technical advancement at the time. It was offered in both civilian and military versions, the latter being widely used by the Wehrmacht during World War II, often with a sidecar. Thanks to its robustness, stability, and reliability, the R12 definitively cemented BMW's reputation as a manufacturer of technically sound and durable motorcycles, and today it is one of BMW's most recognized and highly regarded historic models. The BMW R12 was produced until 1942.
