Bugatti introduced their new racing car, the Type 51, in 1931. The Type 51 was the successor to the famed Bugatti Type 35 race car. Fitted with the supercharged 2.3L straight eight engine from the Type 35B race car, the Type 51 produced 160hp. Around 40 examples of the Type 51 are thought to have been built. Although not as successful as its predecessor, the Type 51 still maintains a special place in motorsport history, coupling rarity with provenance.
