Ford F-100 - 6th Gen (1973 to 1979)

The sixth-generation Ford F-Series was introduced for the 1973 model year. Known by enthusiasts as the "Dentside," the F-100 model series continued on as a 1/2 ton truck from the previous 5th Gen F-Series. Since 1953, the F-100 was the entry-level light-duty pickup offered by Ford. Younger buyers were targeted with an abundance of factory accessories and multi-colored graphics packages in addition to the Explorer and Free Wheelin' appearance packages. It was offered as a regular cab with the option of a "Styleside" or "Flareside" bed in long or short bed configurations. Both beds could be optioned as a two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive platform. Engines offered were two six-cylinder engines, a 240cid, 300cid, and three V8's in a 302cid, 360cid, and a 390cid. 1976 saw two new V8s, a 351cid and a 400cid. Transmissions offered were automatic, three-speed manual, and later, a 4-speed manual depending on engine and drivetrain. In 1974 a two-door Supercab was introduced, featuring a larger cabin with additional windows and seating. Supercabs were only offered with a Styleside short bed or long bed. All models could be outfitted with any three available trim levels, including the entry-level Custom, mid-level Ranger, or top-of-the-line Ranger XLT and Ranger Lariat. For 1978, square headlights replaced the previous models' round ones on higher trim package models, such as Lariat and Ranger, and in 1979 became standard equipment. 1979 would also be the last year for Sixth Generation production, with the Seventh Generation F-Series replacing it.
