The Mercedes-Benz S430 was a variant of the W220 S-Class that debuted in North America for the 2000 model year (1999 in Europe). The S430 was built on the standard and long wheel base W220 platform and was fitted with Mercedes' M113 E43 engine. This 4.3L V8 generated 275hp, which it sent to the rear wheels via a 5 speed automatic transmission (The 5 speed automatic was upgraded to a 7 speed unit from the 2004 model year). Production of the W220 S430 ended in late 2005, although the variant was sold in North America until 2006.
