Porsche was established in 1931 as an automotive developer and consultant. Founded by the famous Ferdinand Porsche, the company was responsible for the creation of the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/volkswagen/beetle/type-1/">Volkswagen Type 1 Beetle</a>. After WW2, the company finally began producing its own automobiles, starting with the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/356/">Porsche 356</a> in 1948. Since the creation of the 356, Porsche has always had a focus on producing sporty, high performance cars. In 1965, the company introduced the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/911/">Porsche 911</a>, a car that has gone on to become synonymous with sports cars, and cemented the company&#39;s place among the most respected in the motoring world. Aside from famous models such as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/carrera-gt/">Carrera GT</a> and <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/918-spyder/">918 Spyder</a>, Porsche also has a storied history in motorsport, winning championships and titles in a wide range of competitions. The Porsche 356 is a sports car which was first produced by Austrian company Porsche Konstruktionen GesmbH (1948&ndash;1949), and then by German company Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH (1950&ndash;1965). It was Porsche&#39;s first production automobile. Production started in 1948 at Gm&uuml;nd, Austria, where approximately 50 cars were built. In 1950 the factory relocated to Zuffenhausen, Germany, and general production of the 356 continued until April 1965, well after the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/911/">911</a> made its autumn 1963 debut. The last revision of the 356 was the 356 C introduced in late 1963, featuring&nbsp;disc brakes all around, along with an&nbsp;option for a more&nbsp;powerful pushrod engine&nbsp;known as the <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/356/356-c/sc/">356 SC</a>. Production of the 356 peaked at 14,151 cars in 1964, the year that its successor, the new <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/911/">911</a>, was introduced to the US market (it was introduced slightly earlier in Europe). The Porsche 356 SC, available in&nbsp;1964 through 1965&nbsp;represented the final evolution of the 356 model. With that evolution came the highest specific output pushrod 4-cylinder engine ever available from Porsche. The SC engine produced 15 percent more horsepower than the standard <a href="https://www.classic.com/m/porsche/356/356-c/">356 C</a> engine and featured a stouter counter-weighted crankshaft, short skirt pistons, a more radical camshaft configuration and large Solex carburetors. This variant also featured 4-wheel disc brakes from the factory.&nbsp;&nbsp;
