Triumph Model R (1921 to 1927)

The Model R was introduced by Triumph Motorcycles in 1921. Also known as the Ricardo, it featured an innovative cylinder head designed by Harry Ricardo. Equipped with a 500cc single-cylinder engine, the Model R was distinguished by its power and its forays into competition, even setting records in speed and endurance events. Over time, different versions were produced, some with steel cylinders and others with cast iron, incorporating improvements such as external oil pumps and revised front brakes. Its major contribution was to introduce Triumph to high-performance engine engineering, although its heavy chassis limited its sporting capabilities, making it today a historic model notable for its technical innovation rather than its maneuverability. The Triumph Model R was produced until 1927.
