The Mercedes-Benz 300CD Turbodiesel was a diesel-powered variant of the C123 Coupe that was exclusive to the North American market. The 300 TD Turbodiesel was powered by Mercedes' OM617.952 engine, which was a 3.0L turbocharged inline-five. This powerplant initially generated 121hp and 170 lb-ft of torque, but a technical update for the 1983 model year saw output increase to 125 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. This power was sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission. Production of the Mercedes-Benz 300D Turbodiesel ended in 1985, with a total of 8,007 examples built.
