The Austin Gipsy was a series of offroad trucks introduced in 1958. Austin created the Gipsy to compete with the Land Rover, offering the model in two door soft top and hard top variants. Over the course of production, both short and long wheelbase variants were produced, both featuring all wheel drive. These offroad vehicles were powered by either a gasoline 2.2L inline four, or diesel 2.2L inline four. Production of the Austin Gipsy ended in 1968, when Austin's parent company (BMC) merged with Leyland, who was Land Rover's parent company. With the companies now merged, the Gipsy was discontinued in order to avoid competing with the Land Rover.
