The BMW M3 GTS was a limited production variant of the E90 M3 that was only available for the 2011 model year. The GTS was created to be a road legal racer, and as such, featured a wide range of weightsaving measures, as well as improved brakes, reworked suspension, and upgraded aerodynamics. Other race-inspired touches included a half roll cage with the option for a full cage, and a fire extinguisher. In addition to these changes, BMW also equipped the GTS with a larger displacement 4.4L V8 engine (as opposed to the standard M3's 4.0L unit) that generated an output of 444hp and 325 lb ft of torque. This power was sent to the rear wheels through a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic transmission known as the M-DCT. The GTS was only offered in BMW's special Fire Orange paint, and was only built as a coupe. Only a total of 150 examples of the M3 GTS were produced.
