Introduced for the 1989 model year, the E34 M5 Sedan was the first body style to debut for the E34 BMW M5. These performance-focused sedans were powered by BMW's S38 engine. Initially, all variants were equipped with the 311hp 'S38B36' 3.6L V8 engine, but from the 1992 model year, European markets received the larger 335hp 'S38B38' 3.8L V8. The vast majority of E34 M5s were fitted with a 5 speed manual transmission, but for the last year of production, a 6 speed manual was introduced. BMW continued to build the E34 BMW M5 until 1995, when the next generation E39 BMW M5 was introduced. A total of 11,363 E34 M5 Sedans were built.
