BMW introduced the 535i variant of their E34 5 Series for the 1988 model year. Powered by BMW's M30B35 3.5L inline six engine, the 535i was one of the more powerful variants of the E34, featuring 208hp. Both manual and automatic transmissions were offered for this series of rear wheel drive cars, as well as sedan or touring wagon body styles. Production of the E34 535i ended in 1992, but the 535i would continue life in the next generation of 5 Series, as the E39 535i.
