Utilizing Ford's New Edge design language, the Puma was based only on the Mark 4 Ford Fiesta in a two-door hatchback configuration. Technically the Puma succeeded the Ford Capri. Three different four cylinder engines were fitted to a manual transmission through a front-wheel drivetrain. Although only produced for a relatively short term of five years, 133,000 Pumas were manufactured until 2002 Ford sold four special editions; Mellinium, Black, Thunder, and the Ford Racing Puma. From 2019, Ford continued the Puma model name, but this time as a crossover.
