Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16 - W201 (1984 to 1988)

One of the most sought after variants of the Mercedes-Benz 190 is the 2.3-16. Introduced for the 1984 model year, the 190 E 2.3-16 was a performance focused version of the 190 that was powered by a Cosworth-tuned engine. This mighty engine was based on Mercedes' M102 2.3L inline four engine, and featuring a Cosworth created 16-valve cylinder head. The result of Cosworth's work on the engine resulted in a flexible, torquey engine that generated 185hp. This power was sent to the rear wheels via manual and automatic transmission options. The manual transmission was a 5 speed unit that featured a notable dog-leg first gear. In addition to the engine, the 2.3-16 also featured improved suspension, a limited-slip differential, sport seats, and additional dials for oil temperature, voltage, and laptime. Only two color options were available on the 190E 2.3-16: Blue-Black Metallic (Pearl Black in North America), and Smoke Silver. Production of the 2.3-16 ended in 1988, when it was replaced by the more powerful Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16.
