Suzuki A Series (1966 to 1998)

The Suzuki A Series emerged from Suzuki's early ambition to dominate the lightweight commuter segment, spanning the A50, A80, A100 and its sport (AS100), scrambler (AC100), and pedal-equipped (A50P/AP) derivatives. Produced continuously from 1966 through the early 1980s, the family remained a single-generation platform with purposeful sub-variants. Engines were tailored per model: the A50 and A50P/AP ran a 49cc air-cooled two-stroke single producing 4.8 hp at 8,500 rpm through a five-speed gearbox; the A80 stepped up to a 72cc unit delivering 8 hp at 7,500 rpm with four speeds; the A100 deployed a 98cc rotary-valve two-stroke making 9.5 hp at 7,500 rpm; the sport-tuned AS100 coaxed 10 hp at 98cc unit via a performance exhaust. All models drove the rear wheel through constant mesh gearboxes.
