The Porsche 911S continued in model year 1974, now as the midrange model, with the introduction of the 2.7 liter engine. As with a new 2.7 liter 911 base model and the high performance Carrera 2.7, the 911S featured new impact bumpers to conform with US regulations, making these cars significantly different than its predecessors. For the 1974 model year, the 911S for all markets was powered by engine Type 911/93 with K-Jetronic fuel injection, rated at 175 hp. Model year 1975 was the last for the 911S in the rest of the world (ROW), where it featured engine Type 911/42 and preserved its rating at 175 hp. For model year 1975 and 1976, US-spec cars, destined for California, received engine Type 911/44 and Type 911/84 respectively, which had a power rating of 160 hp. For all other States, the engines were Type 911/43 and Type 911/82 rated at 165 hp. For model year 1977, the last year of production, the 911S received engine Type 911/85 in all States, rated at 165 hp. Note that versions equipped with Sportomatic will have a different engine designation. During its production, the 911S was available as a 911S 2.7 Coupe and a 911S 2.7 Targa. Vehicles from this period that have undergone significant modifications can be found in the 911S Custom market. In 1978 the new Porsche 911 SC platform was introduced and the 911S was phased out without a direct replacement.
