As an evolution of Porsche’s iconic 1973 Carrera RS 2.7, which was used to homologate the 2.8-litre RSR, for 1974, Porsche homologated a 3.0-litre RSR factory race car, which of course required a small production run to go alongside it. Hence, the 1974 Carrera RS 3.0. With its new 3.0-liter engine, featuring mechanical fuel injection, it was capable of 230 hp. Its price was almost twice that of the previous 2.7 RS. While 1,580 Carrera RS 2.7s were built for 1973, only 56 Carrera RS 3.0s were built for 1974.
