Porsche 997 is the internal designation for the Porsche 911 introduced in late 2004 (2005 in the US) and sold though 2012. Starting with the 997 Carrera and Carrera S coupés, they were followed by the all-wheel drive 997 Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S for model year 2006. The 997 Turbo and 997 GT3 derivatives went on sale for the 2007 model year and the 997 GT2 for 2008. In addition to the coupé and cabriolet versions, a 997 Targa version of the Carrera 4 and Carrera 4S was also available. The 997 was an evolution of the 996 generation, with the most significant changes being interior and exterior styling, the most notable being the replacement of the "fried egg" headlamps used on the 996 with the classic "bug eye" units. The 997's were available over two distinct periods commonly referred to as 997.1 and 997.2. Over 136,000 of the 997.1 were sold, with another 76,000 and change of the 997.2 models. The 997 was phased out by the Porsche 991 generation starting in model year 2012. Dig into all the details in our Porsche 997 Market Guide.
