The BMW 520/6 was a variant of the E12 5 Series that was introduced for the 1978 model year. The 520/6 was largely an updated version of the E12 BMW 520, but with an inline six engine instead of an inline four unit. These cars were offered in a four door sedan body style, and featured "520" badging, but without any indiction of their six cylinder engine. The M20B20 engine, which was the 2.0L unit used in the 520/6, was a carbureted inline six with an output of 120hp that was paired to either manual or automatic transmission options. The E12 BMW 520/6 was built until 1981, when it was replaced by the new E28 BMW 5 Series.
