The Alpina C1 was introduced in1980 as a variant of the E21 BMW 3 Series. It was available exclusively as a coupe with rear-wheel drive and a 5-speed manual transmission. It was powered by a 2.3L inline six based on the M20, modified by Alpina in electronics, camshaft, cylinder head and exhaust system. A less common C1 2.0 version was also available.
