The BMW 325i was first introduced as a variant of the E30 BMW 3 Series. Introduced for the 1986 model year, the 325i was powered by BMW's M20B25 engine, which was a 2.5L inline six unit. This engine produced around 170hp with power running to the rear wheels through manual or automatic transmissions. As one of the E30's most popular variants, the 325i was offered in four body styles: Coupe, Sedan, Convertible, and Touring (station wagon). For 1986, BMW took the engine from the 325i to create an all wheel drive variant known as the 325ix. As BMW introduced the next generation 3 Series (E36), they began to phase out production of the 325i. Coupe and Sedan versions exited production in 1991, while the Convertible was built until 1993. The final E30 325i variant to exit production was the Touring version, which ended its run in 1994. BMW kept the 325i name alive for the next generation 3 Series, with the E36 325i.
